Experience the lives of the Crazy Rich Asians

The Peranakans, or Baba-Nyonya, are a unique community born from the marriage of Chinese traders and local Malay women centuries ago. Their culture is a beautiful blend of Chinese, Malay, and European influences — seen in colorful shophouses, exquisite beadwork, nyonyaware, elegant kebaya, and cuisine.

Far more than just a heritage group, the Peranakans played an important role in shaping modern Singapore.
As pioneering merchants, educators and community leaders, they helped build the nation’s economy and social fabric. Their customs, craftsmanship and cuisine remain an integral part of Singapore’s cultural identity today — a vibrant thread in the rich tapestry that makes the country what it is.

"A must-see in Singapore. "

Real stories from happy visitors who experienced the magic of the Peranakan Mansion, Singapore.

“The priceless collection of artifacts alone is worth the price of admission, but the interpretation by the knowledgeable Peranakan guides really made the daily life of the mansion’s inhabitants unfold. I particularly enjoyed learning the symbolism of the various design motifs in the furniture and clothing, a fusion of Chinese, European and the indigenous Malay culture.”

“Located in a Peranakan shophouse, I was superbly amazed at their collections! Museum guide Juliana was very knowledgeable and she made us feel so welcomed. A MUST‑see place in Singapore for sure! I am already planning a day to bring my whole group of friends soon to gain valuable knowledge about Peranakan culture and to try Nyonya outfits and take plenty of photos too!”

“I attended the Peranakan Culture and Beading Workshop. Docent and Master Beader were very insightful in sharing more about Peranakan culture and heritage. The beading workshop was very fun and we were guided clearly on how to do the beading nicely. The tea and Nyonya kueh served were very yummy. Thank you. I had a wonderful experience there.”
